LHA Design Assessment

Projects can be certified as either having Silver, Gold or Platinum Status, with assessments done at either the design or as-built stages of development.

LHA, an initiative of National Dialogue on Universal Housing Design, was convened in October 2009 With a purpose to facilitate the design and construction of houses to better respond to the changing needs and abilities of people over their lifetime, LHA’s mission is to lead and inspire through leadership, assessment, advocacy and education.

This level has the most widespread benefits and is used in the majority of circumstances.
The Silver Level focuses on incorporating key structural and spatial elements that are critical for future flexibility and adaptability of the home. Incorporating these features will avoid more costly modifications if required at a later date.

Silver Level

This level includes enhanced requirements for most of the core livable housing design elements.
The Gold Level provides more generous dimensions for most of the core livable housing design elements and introduce additional elements in areas such as the kitchen
and bedroom.

Gold Level

The Platinum Level prioritises design elements that better accommodate ageing in place and people with higher mobility needs. This level requires more generous dimensions for most of the core livable design elements and introduces additional elements for features such as the living room and flooring.
